Field Notes
First leg of the "Pilgrimage" Tour is almost done
Hello friend,
How is everyone keeping out there? I’ve settled into a good little groove out here on the road although I have found myself reaching for the phone and scrolling a bit more these last few days. Old Habits die hard I guess, maybe time to delete the apps from the phone, what else does one do on those long drives!? I read, I bullshit with the lads and then I scroll
.
I have found myself in Eden on a few nights of this tour, just pure bliss, total flow moments where I am standing in the stream with my friends onstage living inside the songs and with the folks in the room.
Of course I still have moments of self doubt but those dont seem to last too long these days. I think maybe this comes with age and the exhasution that ensues when we get in our own way all the time? I came here to feel good so I’m gonna try my damndest to make that happen, ha!
We have been mixing the show up a bit, Some nights we play the new record front to back first set and then the “hits” in the second. The guys like it but it feels a little less dynamic than I’d like. So we’ll see how it shakes out, for the rest of the shows and then how it sounds with the band this summer and fall
Joel Plaskett and Dennis Ellsworth joined us for some songs in Halifax (I was more nervous than normal for that show), but we had some good fun regardless.
I chatted with my dear friend Terry David Mulligan recently about the new album our chat just came out, here it is
Folks seem to really be connecting to the material from “Pilgrimage” and the notes we have been getting about the record have been great, seems like this is a favourite so far for a lot of listeners. How cool is that!?
14 records in and I’m still going for it, still trying to find that sound.
Anyhow, I had the day off in Montreal yesterday. It was hot and windy as hell as we walked around, soaking it all in. What a city, what a place.
Leonard…
Here is a great 8/10 Review on the new record from Americana UK
“Pilgrimage” is out now on BANDCAMP and out everywhere on Friday. I’ll do a post about it. Til’ then, be good out there.
